THERMAL, Calif. (AP) — Federal officials say a high level of arsenic has been found in the water at a Riverside County mobile home park.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports sampling at D&D Mobile Home Park on the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indian Reservation near Thermal shows arsenic at almost six times the maximum contamination level set by regulators.

About 300 people live at the mobile home park.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has ordered D&D to submit a written plan for bringing the water system into compliance.

The EPA says the penalty for not complying with the terms of the order can be up to $37,500 per day.

Arsenic is odorless and tasteless and enters water supplies from natural deposits in the earth or from agricultural and industrial practices. It has been linked to cancer and other illnesses.
